Ferraro’s Son Tells of Slain Preppy’s Upbeat Behavior

NEW YORK — The son of former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro testified today that he was tending bar at a hangout for the prep school set and Jennifer Levin was sober, “upbeat and friendly” hours before she was killed in Central Park.
John Zaccaro Jr., a part-time bartender at Dorrian’s Red Hand Restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, testified in state Supreme Court that Levin, 18, came into the bar after midnight on Aug. 26, 1986. She asked him if she could leave her jacket behind the bar and then ordered a glass of ice water, he said.
The partially clad body of the young woman was found hours later in Central Park. Prosecutors claim that Robert Chambers intentionally strangled Levin, 18, during a struggle. Chambers has admitted the killing but said it was an accident during a rough sexual encounter.
Zaccaro, who himself faces drug charges in Vermont, said he knew Levin and Chambers.
