Genentech reported income of $42.2 million for 1987, contrasted with a loss of $353 million in 1986. Operating revenue totaled $230.5 million, up 72% from 1986. The South San Francisco biotechnology firm attributed the results to the fourth-quarter launch of Activase, which is used to dissolve blood clots in coronary arteries that cause heart attacks, and increasing sales of Protropin human growth hormone.
