CalFed’s earnings rose 1.3% to $167 million in 1987, compared to 1986. The Los Angeles-based company, the nation’s fourth-largest savings and loan firm and parent of California Federal Savings & Loan, said the annual results came despite a mandated $8.9-million writeoff of its investment in the secondary reserve of the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp.
