East German leader Erich Honecker said medium-range nuclear missiles in East Germany and Czechoslovakia will be dismantled “sooner than originally envisaged.” Speaking at a lunch in East Berlin for Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou, Honecker said the two East Bloc countries had agreed with Moscow on the early removal. He did not specify how soon. The United States and the Soviet Union agreed last month to eliminate all medium-range ground-launched nuclear missiles. Both sides have yet to ratify the pact and begin dismantling.
