Tehama County authorities charged a 14-year-old boy with murdering his 12-year-old brother, who died in the boys’ rural home from a shotgun wound in his chest. A Juvenile Court judge ordered the boy detained pending a Feb. 8 hearing to enter his plea to the charge filed by the district attorney’s office. Sheriff’s deputies found the slain brother, Bryce Norgard, when they responded to an emergency call at the boys’ home in Paynes Creek, a rural mountainous region north of Red Bluff, said Detective Sgt. Dave Hohenstein. He declined to say if there were witnesses to the shooting or if the boys’ parents were home.
