Muslim rebels disrupted elections in three southern Philippine towns as voters tried to cast ballots in contests delayed again by fears of violence, the military said. At least 3,000 Moro National Liberation Front rebels fired their guns in the air in Pagayawan, Masiu and Tamparan to frighten prospective voters, Brig. Gen. Jesus Hermosa said. The raids forced local election officials to postpone the voting in 120 polling places until today so that security forces could be increased, Hermosa said. Filipinos in 62 of the 73 provinces voted Jan. 18, but balloting was rescheduled in other areas because of the threats of violence.
