Gilbert F. Amelio, president of Rockwell International’s Newport Beach-based Semiconductor Products Businesses, has been named to head Rockwell’s telecommunications group in Richardson, Tex. Amelio will succeed Joe C. Culp, who has resigned as president of Rockwell Telecommunications, which encompasses four divisions employing about 6,000 people in Texas and Illinois. Amelio will continue to head the fast-growing semiconductor group, which includes facilities in Newport Beach and Anaheim employing about 1,500 people. The semiconductor group is a leading manufacturer of telecommunication modems and digital communications products.
