Covina : Dreier 1st in Campaign Cash

U.S. Rep. David Dreier (R-Covina) began this election year with $1.1 million in his campaign fund, giving him more money than any other congressman, according to campaign reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Dreier received $124,362 in contributions last year, raising his cash on hand to $1,106,695. Rep. Dan Rostenkowski (D-Ill.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, is second to Dreier with $904,149.

Other congressmen representing the San Gabriel Valley trail Dreier in fund-raising. Rep. Carlos Moorhead (R-Glendale) is second with $554,724 in the bank. Moorhead raised $116,258 last year.

Rep. Matthew G. Martinez (D-Monterey Park), who faces a challenge in the Democratic primary from former Monterey Park Mayor Lily Lee Chen, reported $60,021 in cash on hand at the start of this year, including $42,977 raised in 1987.

Rep. Esteban Torres (D-La Puente) collected $95,963 in contributions last year to bring his cash total to $170,076. Rep. Edward Roybal (D-Los Angeles), who has served in Congress for 25 years, reported a campaign fund of $226,362 although he raised only $4,010 last year.
