JERUSALEM — Israeli soldiers Saturday shot and killed two Arabs and wounded three others, including two teen-age girls, during rioting in the occupied West Bank town of Dhahiriya, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.
An Israeli army spokesman said that villagers, who had blocked the main road, began throwing rocks at soldiers who moved in to restore order. One soldier was hurt, and the unit “opened fire to get out,” the spokesman said.
The Arab-run Palestine Press Service identified the two men killed as Mahel Wreidet, 25, and Rasem al Kadeirat, 30. It also said that another Arab man and two Arab girls, aged 17 and 18, suffered gunshot wounds to the head.
The fatalities brought to at least 80 the number of Arabs killed since the unrest began Dec. 9.
