Schools Given Funds to Ease Overcrowding

The Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency has given the city school district $3 million, the first installment of a promised $6.5 million, to help ease overcrowding in about 50 downtown schools.
John J. Tuite, CRA administrator, said that the funds will help the schools provide for an increase in students resulting from the development of housing for low-to-moderate-income families.
The first installment will be used to rehabilitate 17 elementary schools and three junior high schools within a 3-mile radius of the Bunker Hill Redevelopment project area.
