WASHINGTON — Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, 57, had her appendix removed at Bethesda Naval Medical Center and was reported in good condition, court spokeswoman Toni House said Tuesday.
House said O’Connor was feeling “exceedingly well” after the surgery Monday night, and she expected the justice to be hospitalized for a “minimal amount of time.”
O’Connor, who joined the high court in 1981, was on the bench Monday morning when the justices issued opinions and orders and became ill in the afternoon, House said.
The court is on recess and is not expected to return until March 21.
