Long Beach : Tall Ships to Be in Parade

The Coast Guard’s tall ship Eagle will parade through Long Beach Harbor on Wednesday and go on public display in commemoration of the city’s centennial.
The training ship will be escorted through the harbor by the state’s official tall ship, the Californian, and boats from local marinas and yacht clubs, according to the Long Beach Centennial Committee. The parade will start in Long Beach Harbor at 9 a.m. The three-masted Eagle will follow a route around the oil islands and is expected to be best seen from the bluffs along the beach or the Queen Mary.
The Eagle, Californian, a Navy guided-missile frigate and Coast Guard rescue helicopter are scheduled to go on public display at the Naval Station from 2:10 to 4:10 p.m. Wednesday and from 11:10 a.m. to 6:10 p.m. Thursday.
Parking and shuttle bus fare from the Long Beach Convention Center on Ocean Boulevard will cost $3.70. There is no parking at the Naval Station, officials said.
The 295-foot Eagle, returning from Australia’s bicentennial celebration, is expected to depart April 1.
