Triple jumper Yvette Bates was named USC’s outstanding senior woman athlete at an awards banquet at the Biltmore Hotel.
Trojan Spirit Awards for outstanding contributions to their team’s success went to Bates, a two-time NCAA indoor champion, rower Amy Bunce, volleyball player Sheila Combs, tennis player Janice Lum, basketball player Paula Pyers, golfer Kim Saiki and swimmer Sabrina Schick.
Marjorie Pings, wife of USC provost Cornelius Pings, was given the Helen of Troy Award for her volunteer work on behalf of the women’s athletic program.
