First-round action will begin today in the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s tennis tournament at UCLA’s L.A. Tennis Center.
Florida, which reached the semifinals last year, is top-seeded, and Stanford, 2-time defending champion, is second. Florida and Stanford won’t begin play, however, until Thursday’s round of 16. Florida will meet the winner of today’s match between No. 16 Pepperdine and No. 17 Texas, and Stanford will play either No. 19 Duke or No. 15 Arizona.
USC, the third-seeded team, will play No. 18 South Carolina or No. 14 BYU Thursday. And No. 4 UCLA will meet No. 13 Trinity of Texas or No. 20 Harvard, also on Thursday.
The team final will be played Sunday, and individual competition will begin Monday and run through May 19.
