West Hollywood : Albert Becomes Mayor at 77
- Share via
Helen Albert, 77, was installed as mayor of West Hollywood on Monday, becoming one of the oldest women in the United States to hold that office.
Albert, who has served on the City Council since West Hollywood’s incorporation in 1984, assumed the office in a special ceremony at West Hollywood Park Auditorium. Her colleagues on the City Council had elected her to the largely ceremonial post two weeks ago, while she was vacationing.
She succeeds Alan Viterbi, who was among the youngest elected officials in the state when he won a four-year council term in 1984 at the age of 24. Viterbi did not seek reelection to the council in April.
