The plan to keep the Chicago White Sox from moving to Florida faces an uphill battle in the Illinois Assembly, lawmakers said.
They complained that Gov. James R. Thompson has offered the team a multi-million-dollar annual subsidy while pushing for a state income tax increase to relieve a tight budget.
The White Sox have pledged to stay in Chicago if lawmakers approve a revised lease on a proposed $120-million stadium that would tie the team’s rent to attendance.
