Peter M. Detwiler, the principal staff consultant to the state Senate’s Committee on Local Government, will be the featured speaker at a forum tonight on the Dana Point cityhood measure on the June 7 ballot.
Measure B would join the unincorporated communities of Dana Point, Capistrano Beach and coastal Laguna Niguel into one city called Dana Point.
Detwiler has worked on the Senate local government committee since 1982. The committee, chaired by state Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach), reviews bills on local government finance, land-use planning and development, as well as the organization of cities, counties and special districts, such as water, sanitation and cemetery districts.
Before 1982, Detwiler was the legislative coordinator for former Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s Office of Planning and Research. He also served on the San Diego Local Agency Formation Commission from 1972 to 1975.
Tonight’s cityhood election forum will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Richard H. Dana Elementary School, 24242 La Cresta Drive, Dana Point. For more information, call (714) 496-1911.
