Stevens Leads Cobras Past New York

NEW YORK — Matt Stevens threw four touchdown passes, two of them to Gary Mullen, to lead the Los Angeles Cobras to a 36-22 victory over the New York Knights in Arena Football Monday night.

Stevens completed 16 of 29 passes for 205 yards for the Cobras (3-3), who have won three straight games. The loss was the fifth in a row for the Knights after a season-opening victory.

Stevens, a former UCLA quarterback, threw a 7-yard scoring pass to Mullen six seconds into the final period to break a 22-22 tie. Stevens finished with a 43-yard pass to Dick Rodgers, the longest of his scoring passes.

New York’s Jim Crocicchia ran 4 yards for a score in the opening period as the Knights took a 9-0 lead. Crocicchia also threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Edwin Lovelady to tie the score, 22-22, with 4:42 remaining in the third quarter.
