McDonnell Douglas Corp. has been awarded a $963-million contract to supply the Navy with 84 F/A Hornet strike twin-engine aircraft, the Navy said. The Navy said work on the aircraft would be carried out in St. Louis, headquarters of McDonnell’s aircraft subsidiary, and should be completed by September, 1990. The F/A 18, a single-seat aircraft, is the most modern bomber in the U.S. inventory. The Navy has already asked Congress for funds to buy 72 more in fiscal year 1989.
