Shirley Huston, executive director of the Affiliated Cities Rental Owners Assn., was installed in rapid-fire, unusual fashion as president of the Southern California Society of Assn. Executives at a luncheon at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center.
She declared “I do” as she stepped to the rostrum where Thomas K. Bannon, executive vice president and chief executive officer of the California Apartment Assn., was waiting to swear her in. A moment later she added “wholeheartedly” when Bannon asked the customary question about carrying out her duties.
Routinely, other officers installed were Don Dressler, vice president; Michael T. Pfeiffer, secretary; Kay Briski, treasurer, and Carolyn Fahnestock, Pat Lawless O’Rourke, Bill Miller, Robert Stanton, Tony Di Raimondo, Rosemary Green, Kelly Ramirez and Katherine Sparacino as directors. Robert B. Westover was the outgoing president.
In her brief acceptance remarks, Huston said the association must expand its resources of information and education for its executive members who have long been the “hidden professionals “ and “invisible professionals.”
“The members of SCSAE are leaders of associations which serve the entire spectrum of business and industry in Southern California . . . manufacturing, technology, science, housing, construction, automotive, food products, sports . . . industries and professions which impact our communities with billions of dollars annually,” she said.
