Comptroller Relocates to Glendale Office

The federal comptroller of the currency has relocated its Southern California regional headquarters from downtown Los Angeles to 550 N. Brand Ave., Glendale.

Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Services represented both parties in the long-term lease valued at about $4.8 million for 11,400 square feet of space in the 21-story building owned by 550 North Brand Partnership.

The regional office of the comptroller, which has oversight responsibilities for national banks in Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, had been at 523 W. 6th St.

Glendale is now California’s third-ranking financial center, behind Los Angeles and San Francisco, according to a Coldwell Banker spokesman. Other tenants in the building, now about 35% leased, include 20th Century Insurance, Shearson Lehman Brothers and Great American Bank.

Designed by the Los Angeles office of Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, the 287,000-square-foot building consists of a 16-story office tower rising above a five-level colonnaded podium containing parking for more than 860 cars.
