Bryant Gumbel has signed a 3-year contract with NBC that will keep him on the “Today” show, NBC announced Thursday. Gumbel, who will anchor NBC’s prime-time coverage of the Summer Olympics in September, was rumored to be wanting off the early morning show at the end of his contract later this year. “Just rumors,” insisted “Today” executive producer Marty Ryan, who called Gumbel’s signing “sensational.” Gumbel’s new deal gives him two prime-time shows a year, but Ryan said the 200-plus “Today” shows in the contract mean that the morning program is still “the keystone” of the contract.
