The House passed an emergency hunger relief bill that extends a temporary food program and requires the government to buy an extra $110 million in surplus commodities for the needy. The bill, similar to one passed last month by the Senate, also makes small increases in food stamp benefits and makes it easier for farmers, the disabled and the elderly to qualify for food stamps. The measure goes to a House-Senate conference committee.
