Thomas E. Dierckman and James Smith were appointed senior vice presidents of Newhall Land & Farming Co. The real-estate and agricultural concern, which is developing the community of Valencia, also named Stephen C. Schmidt as vice president.

Dierckman, a civil engineer, most recently was a vice president responsible for Newhall’s residential real-estate operations. Smith was a vice president in charge of Newhall’s computer systems. Schmidt was director of sales for Newhall Investment Properties, a separate company that was created in 1984 to sell real-estate holdings spun off from Newhall Land.
