Claremont 33, Burbank 0--Rich Langton threw three touchdown passes to Craig Palos at Burroughs High, spoiling Randy Stage’s debut as the Bulldogs’ coach.
Claremont defensive tackle J. J. McGwire, brother of Oakland Athletics star Mark McGwire, intercepted a Jeremy Sparks pass, returning it 33 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown. The Wolfpack held Burbank to 176 yards.
Burbank’s Tarin Cardenaz led all rushers with 71 yards in 17 carries and teammate Bill Charles added 50 in 11 carries. Anthony Valento completed 2 of 12 passes for 12 yards. Burbank crossed midfield just four times.
Langton completed 8 of 10 passes for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Palos had a game-high 5 catches for 138 yards. Dimetrius Smith was Claremont’s top rusher, gaining 57 yards in 11 carries.
