Mix-up on Mormons?

Once again, Calendar’s journalistic paint brush applies the broad strokes of sensationalism.
Author Peter H. Brown had a field day using his highly pejorative and inflammatory phrases (“Coming Soon, the Mormon Murders,” Sept. 18) . Some of them appear to be made up (who has ever heard of the “Mormon Underground”?) and others are just incorrect (a “Mormon fundamentalist” is a polygamous former member, not a conservative Mormon).
Church officials have never acknowledged paying “huge” sums to Mark Hofmann to keep documents from going public. To the contrary, church officials refused to buy some of Hofman’s documents, those they did purchase were made public even when they were not flattering to the church, and the prices paid were normal for the document market.
Did Mr. Brown use one of the books he was writing as a research source?
