Camacho to Fight Souce in Puerto Rico

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Hector (Macho) Camacho, former World Boxing Council super featherweight and lightweight champion, will fight for the first time in his native city of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Officials of SuperFights Unlimited, Inc., said Camacho will fight Rick Souce on Oct. 20 in a junior welterweight bout scheduled for 10 rounds. It will be the second outing for Camacho this year. Camacho rebounded from a first-round knockdown June 25--the only knockdown of his career--against Reyes Cruz and won a close decision in Atlantic City, N.J.

However, it won’t be the first time Camacho has fought in Puerto Rico. He captured the vacant WBC super featherweight title in San Juan in 1983 when he knocked out Rafael Limon in the fifth round, and beat Rafael Solis three months later in Hato Rey to retain his title.

Camacho was born in Bayamon but grew up in the streets of New York City’s Spanish Harlem.
