Birmingham 20, Poly 17--Danny Larson’s 60-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Jon Ferguson in the third quarter completed a 20-point Birmingham rally to lead the Braves at home.
Birmingham’s winning touchdown was set up by the second of Poly’s 4 fumbles. Poly running back Johnathon Campbell fumbled at the Birmingham 40-yard line and the Braves scored 2 plays later.
Poly led, 17-0, midway through the second quarter as Campbell and tailback Leo Piloto each had 3-yard touchdown runs. Chad Martinez added a 30-yard field goal to cap the Parrots’ scoring.
Fullback Jim Lawson started the Birmingham comeback with a 10-yard touchdown run with 2:52 left in the second quarter. Larson connected with Josh Epstein on a 34-yard scoring pass to cut the Poly lead at halftime to 17-14.
Campbell gained 69 yards in 17 carries to lead all rushers.
Larson completed 6 of 13 for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. Larson led Birmingham in rushing with 31 yards in 7 carries.
