Berenice Fritts Koerber; President of Bakersfield Californian for 21 Years

Berenice Fritts Koerber, granddaughter of the founder of the Bakersfield Californian and president of that newspaper for the last 21 years, died Friday in her suburban San Francisco home. Death at age 75 was attributed to a brief illness, the newspaper reported.
A San Francisco native who performed many philanthropic activities in that area, Mrs. Koerber oversaw several changes in the newspaper during her tenure, including a shift in printing techniques, the move from afternoon to morning publication and the development of a new publishing plant.
She is survived by Harold Koerber, her second husband (her first, Donald E. Fritts Sr., died in 1969), sons Donald H. Fritts, publisher of the Californian, and Alfred T. Fritts, co-publisher and editor, and a daughter, Virginia Fritts Cowenhoven. Three grandchildren also survive.
Services will be held in Northern California.
