All four movie scenes being shown in the Archway Cookies promotion airing on TBS are very familiar. One’s from a classic Christmas movie, and the other three are immediately recognizable to fans of Elvis Presley, Peter Sellers and Robert Mitchum.
It’s the prize that’s hard to figure out.
“If you can remember what these movies are,” says the narrator for the spot, “you could win a trip for two to Hollywood for a VIP tour of the MGM studios and a five-day cruise.”
What MGM studios?
There have been no MGM studios since TBS boss Ted Turner bought and dismantled the company three years ago. What used to be the MGM studio is now the Lorimar Telepictures studio.
“The deal (with Archway) was cut before Lorimar took over,” said Dave Williams, marketing veep for Turner Broadcasting Sales. “We will be using what used to be known as the MGM facilities.”
Meaning, the grand-prize winner will tour the Lorimar studios.
