Developer Fees

I read with great interest David W. Myers’ article (Oct. 30) regarding the legality of city fees. As a member of the Beverly Hills City Council, I found his article extremely well-written and of great pertinence.

I think developers need to increase their participation in financing infrastructure costs; however, I do not want to unfairly burden the current developers for all of the “wrongs” of the past. Perhaps assessment districts would be a fairer route, so that all property owners bear these costs, not just the developers that just happen to be starting the projects at this time.
