Burlington Northern Inc. has agreed to pay more than $175 million to settle an antitrust suit brought by pipeline Energy Transportation Systems, ending a longstanding legal dispute. ETS had claimed that Burlington Northern unlawfully blocked construction of a proposed coal pipeline in the 1970s from the Powder River Basin in Wyoming to Texas and Arkansas. Seattle-based Burlington Northern said it would pay $100 million cash to ETS on Dec. 1, and make deferred payments of $25 million plus interest on Dec. 1 of 1989, 1990 and 1991.
