Paul Eckles, the city manager of Inglewood for 13 years, received a three-year contract extension Tuesday.
Under the extension approved 3 to 1 by the City Council, Eckles, 48, who receives a salary and benefits package worth about $123,000, will get 4.5% raises in each of the three years.
Council members have credited Eckles, who came to Inglewood as assistant city manager in 1973, with guiding the city through turbulent changes in its ethnic and racial makeup. They also have praised him for helping to reduce crime and improve the city’s economy.
