Girls’ Basketball : Simi Valley Defense Thwarted by Channel Islands’ Tauaua

Despite Simi Valley’s double- and triple-teaming defense, sophomore center Sal Tauaua of Channel Islands scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Lady Raiders to a 68-58 victory Tuesday in a Marmonte League opener at Simi Valley.
Shannon Solway had 14 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for Simi Valley (9-5 overall).
In other games:
La Reina 61, Moorpark 22--All 11 players scored for La Reina in the Tri-Valley League opener at La Reina.
Heather Freeman led La Reina (6-6) with 13 points. Moorpark, which trailed, 38-8, at halftime, failed to score in the third quarter.
Bell-Jeff 47, Burbank 40--Seniors Lisa Negrete and Andja Vucurevic had 12 and 10 points, respectively, to lead Bell-Jeff (11-3) to the nonleague win at home.
Senior forward Jennifer Helsley had 18 points for Burbank (1-8).
Alemany 56, Antelope Valley 44--Alemany came back from a 5-point halftime deficit to beat Antelope Valley in a nonleague game. Andrea Hoffman had 23 points and Sylvia Castaneda had 10 to lead Alemany.
