IDEC Pharmaceuticals Corp. of La Jolla and Mountain View has appointed Clifford Orent as general counsel and vice president for corporate development, effective Feb. 13.
Orent, 38, will lead the development of IDEC’s business agreements with major corporate partners in the United States and abroad and will manage IDEC’s legal affairs and licensing activities. He joins IDEC from Genentech, where he filled a number of management positions after joining the company in 1983.
Before joining Genentech, Orent was in-house international counsel for G.D. Searle and later Schering-Plough. At Schering, Orent also held marketing and general management positions based in Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Orent came to Genentech from Collagen Corp., where he directed the company’s medical and international marketing activities.
