Bail was reduced to $100,000 Friday for a nurse’s aide accused of raping an unconscious 11-year-old girl at a rehabilitation hospital.
Noel Sanchez, 22, of Clairemont won the reduction from $1 million bail from San Diego Municipal Judge Charles Patrick.
Sanchez is accused of rape with a foreign object on an unconscious person and child molestation. The girl, who has been in a coma since an October car accident, was assaulted Christmas Eve. She has been moved to another hospital.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Harry Elias urged that bail be at least $250,000. Sanchez’s attorney, Elliott Kanter, said Sanchez could not make bail at $250,000. Bail of $1 million is usually set for murder suspects, but for sex crimes bail is usually much lower.
Patrick said Sanchez has no criminal record.
A preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 10. If convicted, Sanchez could serve 13 years in prison.
