A runaway truck crashed into the deck area of the Greeter’s Corner Restaurant on Wednesday, toppling chairs and patrons.
Workers were unloading a Pack West Paper & Chemical Co. truck at the Hotel Laguna about 1:09 p.m. when it rolled away unattended and struck the deck behind the restaurant in the 300 block of South Coast Highway, Laguna Beach Fire Capt. Eugene D’Isabella said.
“It jarred the people out of their seats,” D’Isabella said. Seven people were taken to South Coast Medical Center for minor injuries.
“Most of them suffered back and neck pain just from falling out of their chairs,” he said. “Some of them looked bloody, but it turned out to be ketchup and food. The truck took that whole deck and shoved it.”
The truck was traveling about 15 m.p.h. when it struck the wooden deck and knocked it off its foundation, D’Isabella said.
