A Simi Valley street was the scene of two major accidents about 11 hours apart, one of which resulted in the death of a teen-age motorcyclist, authorities said.
Daniel Armstrong, 17, of Simi Valley was struck and killed at 12:09 p.m. Friday as he was riding his motorcycle on Fitzgerald Road west of Mead Avenue. Armstrong, who was not wearing a helmet, hit a car driven by David Schmidt, 19, of Simi Valley, who was making a U-turn, Police Lt. Don Austin said.
Schmidt suffered severe cuts to the face and hands, and Armstrong’s companion on the motorcycle, Robert Molidor, suffered a broken leg and head injuries.
Almost 11 hours later, five Simi Valley teen-agers were injured near the same spot on Fitzgerald when their driver lost control of the car, which hit a parked motor home and car, Austin said.
Two passengers, Hugo Hernandez, 16, and Lisa Avendano, 15, were in critical condition from head injuries Saturday at Simi Valley Adventist Hospital.
Another passenger, Lori Duron, 15, was in satisfactory condition. The other two occupants, including the 15-year-old unlicensed driver, were treated and released from the hospital.
