An unarmed federal drug agent shot to death in a New York undercover operation was wearing a radio transmitter and had five backup men, but they lost contact as he drove off with the man suspected of killing him, officials said. The murder of undercover Special Agent Everette Hatcher was the first killing of a Drug Enforcement Administration officer in the New York area since 1972.
