Snake Researcher Bitten by Venomous Pit Viper

SALT LAKE CITY — A researcher who keeps 1,000 venomous snakes for scientific purposes was in serious but stable condition Thursday after being bitten by a Pakistan pit viper.
William E. Haast, 78, was extracting venom from the viper when it bit his thumb, a hospital spokesman said.
