Hirohito’s Funeral
It was ludicrous to see more than 160 world leaders in Tokyo attend the elaborate funeral procession of Emperor Hirohito. This man, historically, was responsible for so much death and destruction during World War II. To honor such a man is to ignore truth and decency, no matter what the economic and political motives may be. Isn’t it shocking and shameful that a man called a war criminal in 1942, and who should have been tried as such at the end of hostilities, is saintly and solemnly honored in 1989?
