The Nobel Foundation raised the cash award for Nobel prizes by 20% to $473,000. The increase was set after a second record year of profits by the foundation that administers the fortune Alfred Nobel bequeathed in 1896. The foundation said that profits surged by 71% last year to $9.1 million. A year ago, the value of the prizes were raised by 15% to $416,000.
