Team Canada, led by Steve Yzerman’s goal and two assists, edged Czechoslovakia, 4-3, to win the silver medal in the World Hockey Championships in Stockholm.
The unbeaten Soviet Union, which wrapped up the title Saturday, beat Sweden in the medal-round finale at the Globe Arena, 5-1.
Viacheslav Fetisov, who hopes to play for the New Jersey Devils next season, was named the tournament’s top defenseman. Goaltending honors went to Dominik Hasek of Czechoslovakia. Brian Bellows of Canada was named the No. 1 forward.
Czechoslovakia took the bronze medal.
