Southland Unemployment Rises: Unemployment in Southern California rose slightly during May, the state Employment Development Department said. Normal seasonal fluctuations were cited as the cause. The largest jump in unemployment was seen in Riverside County, where the rate rose to 6.6% from 6.1% in April. In Los Angeles County, the unemployment rate was 4.6% in May and 4.3% in April, Orange County had 3.1% unemployed, compared to 3%; San Diego had 4.1%, compared to 3.9%; Ventura had 4.7%, compared to 4.5%, and San Bernardino had 5.4%, compared to 5.3%.
