Missing Girl, 5, Just Took a Nap on the School Bus

SACRAMENTO — A 5-year-old girl who fell asleep on the school bus and was reported missing overnight was discovered safe Saturday in a locked, fenced outdoor yard where the buses are kept, police said.
The kindergartner, Kathy Chao, was reported in good condition and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center for a precautionary checkup.
A man spotted the girl in the bus yard at midday Saturday, recalled seeing her picture in the newspaper, and called police.
School authorities said they would investigate to find out why the driver didn’t check the bus before leaving it.
