St. Monica at Palisades

St. Monica couldn’t get its offense started, and Whittier Christian couldn’t be stopped as the Heralds shut out the Mariners, 31-0.
Mariner Coach Angelo Jackson said that he had no excuses, that Whittier Christian “controlled the game, and we just didn’t tackle.” Jackson said that if he can find a couple of outside linebackers who can bring down ball carriers, he will stay in a new 3-4 defense. If he can’t, the team will go back to its old 4-3.
This one, at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Palisades, will be the opener for the Dolphins, who were 1-8 last year.
Other Friday games:
Huntington Park at Venice, 8 p.m.; Manual Arts at Dorsey, 8 p.m.; Crenshaw at Lynwood, 7:30 p.m.; Hollywood at Jordan, 3 p.m.; St. Bernard at St. Francis, 7:30 p.m.; Daniel Murphy at Duarte, 7:30 p.m.
Other Saturday games: Brentwood at Flintridge Prep, 1 p.m.; Camp Kilpatrick at LaVerne Lutheran, 2 p.m.; Santa Monica vs. Pasadena at Pasadena City College, 7:30 p.m.
