After four consecutive road games, Cal State Long Beach will play winless New Mexico State in a Big West Conference football game today at noon at Veterans Stadium.
The 49ers, 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the Big West, lost last week to University of the Pacific, 26-25. They have not defeated a Division I-A team this season.
Running back Jeff Fassett and wide receiver Sean Foster, both reserves when the season started, have become key starters for the injury-plagued 49ers. Last week, Fassett ran for 116 yards, and Foster caught six passes for 80 yards and three touchdowns.
New Mexico State (0-4, 0-1) has lost 10 consecutive games over two seasons, and 21 consecutive conference games.
The Aggies, who have gained only 315 yards on the ground, are led by quarterback Phil Vinson, who has completed 60 of 115 passes for 649 yards.
