Savaging Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Reputation

Regarding “Alone Again, Naturally” by Lee May (Oct. 16): My congratulations to Dr. Ralph Abernathy. He has finally succeeded in accomplishing something many have attempted to do within the past 20 years. By discrediting the Rev. Martin Luther King and dragging his name through the mud, not only has he reassassinated King, but he has blown out the candle of faith for black individuals who believed in King’s efforts and accomplishments, his dreams and hopes for civil rights.
We wonder why Abernathy had to wait to write a book to release this information. Why couldn’t he have advertised this when King was alive? Because now King cannot personally defend himself.
Abernathy’s destructive stories will not deter us from believing in the greatest civil rights leader whose influences and powerful presence still lives on in our hearts.
