PORTLAND, Ore. — Terry Porter scored 21 points and the Portland Trail Blazers held Minnesota to one point in the first 4:49 of the fourth quarter and pulled away from the expansion Timberwolves, 93-83, Sunday night.
Jerome Kersey added 16 points and Kevin Duckworth 15 for Portland. Portland played without All-Star guard Clyde Drexler, who has a bruised right elbow.
Tony Campbell scored 10 points in the first quarter and finished with 20 for Minnesota (0-2).
The Trail Blazers led, 43-42, at halftime and increased the lead to 65-61 after three quarters. Portland’s Buck Williams was called for two technical fouls and ejected after arguing with Minnesota’s Scott Roth early in the fourth period, and Campbell made a foul shot that made it 65-62.
Portland then scored eight straight points. A three-point play by Roth got the Timberwolves to within 73-65, but the Trail Blazers quickly increased the lead to 13 points and were never threatened.
