A father and his live-in girlfriend have been charged with seven counts each of felony child abuse for allegedly beating and hog-tying the man’s 3-year-old daughter.
Venus Berthomieux and Martha Germany, both 30, face up to six years in prison on each charge if convicted, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Ralph Plummer.
Berthomieux pleaded not guilty to all counts Wednesday in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
The two were arrested Oct. 14 after calling paramedics to report that the girl had accidentally swallowed rubbing alcohol at their home in South-Central Los Angeles.
Los Angeles police said they found the child malnourished and badly bruised. Police said bruises on the child indicted that she had been tied up.
An emergency room doctor called it one of the worst cases of child abuse he had ever seen, investigators said.
The girl has been placed in a foster home.
